Mistico Hanging Bridges Guided Group Tour
Hanging bridges are a unique way to experience the rainforest canopy. The bridges at Mistico Hanging Bridges near La Fortuna/Arenal are some of the best in Costa Rica.
This guided tour will take you on a 2 mile (3.2 km) concrete path with 16 hanging bridges. It’s fairly easy, more of a walk than a hike, but is a nice trek through the jungle. The bridges are very safe/sturdy and not very shaky.
Along the way, a knowledgeable naturalist guide will point out birds and animals that you might not spot on your own. Animals that may be seen include coatis (racoon-like animals), howler monkeys, white faced capuchin monkeys, peccaries (wild-boar-type animals), lots of birds, snakes, and armadillos.
The guides we use for this tour are from a small, local company in La Fortuna. We have done many tours with them ourselves and their guides are excellent and very knowledgeable.

Our tour van arrived on time and our guide, Alex, moved easily between English and Spanish to lead us through the park. He pointed out and explained things we would never have caught on our own- insects, birds, a sloth hidden in the trees, howler monkeys. The sights from the bridges were unlike anything we have seen before. Alex had a scope that allowed us to see everything up close and in detail, and we could take photos on our phones via the scope. After, the tour company set up a table of fresh fruit and cold water and we cooled off a bit before heading back. The tour was well-organized and we felt it was well worth the money. There are so many tour choices on the internet when planning a trip like this, and we didn’t want to run the risk of being disappointed. I highly recommend Two Weeks in Costa Rica for setting us up with an excellent tour operator.

This tour was fairly good value with knowledgable guides, but rathert spoilt by extremely wet weather. In retrospect, we would have preferred to have done a self-guided tour at a slower pace. We probably would then have missed some of the smaller and more distant animals, but I couldn’t help thinking that as part of a larger group we would be scaring off many of the creatures.
